After 22 games and a team in turmoil after their loss to the Eagles, Andy Reid has fired Defensive Coordinator Juan Castillo. According to to Reuben Frank:
A league source said Eagles head coach Andy Reid met with Castillo Tuesday morning and relieved him of all his coaching duties. Castillo, in his 18th season with the franchise, will no longer be with the Eagles in any capacity.
Reid said on Monday he wouldn’t rule out taking defensive play-calling responsibilities away from Castillo but said, “That’s not where I’m at right now. But listen, I look at everything during the bye, but I’m not here to stand before you and tell you that. That’s not what I’m doing.”
The change comes two days after the Eagles suffered one of the greatest fourth-quarter collapses in franchise history, losing 26-23 after taking a 13-6 lead into the fourth quarter.
Well Andy Reid couldn’t fire himself so his friend was next on the block. Castillo didn’t do himself any favors putting Rodgers-Cromartie on Calving Johnson toward the end of the game. Firing Castillo also won’t help Mike Vick cut down on his turnovers. Reid may have saved his job for now but if the Eagles don’t right the ship, we could all see a bad end to the Reid era in Philadelphia
