Yes you read that correctly. Tim Tebow is now a New England Patriot. Now there’s a couple things to understand here. 1. Tom Brady is clearly not looking over his shoulder (but he might want to make sure his offensive line is upright). 2. I don’t expect too many press conferences from Tebow in New England.  3. This is the best place Tebow could have ended up.

While much has been said about Tebow ability or lack thereof to grasp the Quaterback position, when given the opportunity, he can win games (although you may have to sit through 3 quarters of awful football). Now that Tebow will be under the tutelage of Darth Hood and Josh McDaniels (the coach who drafted him) if Tebow does not improve as a Quarterback, it can be safe to say that he could be better utilized at another position.

Whether you like him or not it will be interesting to see how the Patriots try to use Tebow.

ESPN and NFL.com report that

Tom Brady has agreed to a three-year, $27 million contract extension with the Patriots, a deal that will keep him with New England through the 2017 season, Sports Illustratedreported Monday.

The extension includes a $3 million signing bonus along with annual salaries of $7 million in 2015, $8 million in 2016 and $9 million in 2017, when Brady will turn 40, according to the report.

Many will applaud Tom Brady for taking a pay cut for the betterment of the team to stay competitive and be able to sign some big name free agents but the Patriots aren’t known for being big spenders so it remains to be seen if this strategy will pay off.  If they don’t resign Wes Welker it may be all for nothing.

A source with intimate knowledge of the team’s thinking told Ron Borges of the Boston Herald that thePatriots “are simply not going to put an $11.4 million franchise tag” on the 31-year-old wide receiver.

Borges argues Welker has worked himself into a corner, and he’s right. With little leverage in the situation, Welker isn’t about to receive a better offer than the fully guaranteed two-year, $16 million deal he turned down in 2011. By signing his franchise tender last May, Welker veered off a path that helped previous players get paid.

Unless Welker agrees to less money (he agreed to a one-year, $9.515 million tender last spring) the Patriots will cut him loose. WR Brandon Lloyd due a $3 million option bonus on top of a $1.9 million base salary, Patriots fans may see a new receiver corp next season.

One thing about the Patriots, they don’t care what you did for them last year. If you start costing too much, they’ll let you go and draft your replacement.
