Geno Smith signs with Roc Nation Sports

Hov is going hard to establish himself as a serious sports agent. With Victor Cruz already under the umbrella, Jay-Z now has the Jets QB Geno Smith to add to the roster. When asked how Smith feels about joining the agency, he responded:

“I think it’s just his agency. When you talk about being in New York from a standpoint of what they can do in the city, the connections that they have, I think it’s a good move. My mother and my family is comfortable with it, I’m comfortable with it. I’m just going to move on from there, not let it be a big deal, remain humble and keep focusing on football.”

There will be new opportunities for Smith being with Roc Nation but I wonder who is really running the show? Hov is not a certified agent and their first agent is Kim Miale. Miale before joining Roc Nation had only two NFL clients – both are inactive.

Jets Waive Tim Tebow

NFL.com reports The New York Jets announced Monday morning that Tebow was waived after one season with the team. Tebow was told face-to-face by new general manager John Idzik and coach Rex Ryan when Tebow arrived for phase two of the Jets’ offseason program.

Idzik insisted on keeping Tebow through the 2013 NFL Draft in case the Jets could find a trade partner or use for him. After selecting quarterback Geno Smith in the second round, Tebow — not Mark Sanchez — is the odd man out.

Tebow threw only eight passes as a Jet and rushed the ball 32 times, without great effectiveness. Despite awful quarterback play in front of Tebow, Ryan and offensive coordinator Tony Sparano never wanted to use Tebow as a starter. And they had no idea how to use him as a backup. The Jets wasted a fourth- and sixth-round pick in exchange for Tebow in a trade last offseason that smacked of ownership involvement.

It’s going to be hard for Tebow to get a job at this stage, much less one with a realistic shot at playing time. He will go through waivers and it’s very likely he won’t be claimed because of his salary. After he clears waivers, Tebow will be free to sign with any NFL team.

Even if Tebow ever rises again, his stay in New York will go down as a huge career setback. Otherwise, his stay with the Jets will be remembered as the beginning of the end of his quarterbacking career.

Darrelle Revis gets traded to Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Jets decided it was time to part ways with Darrelle Revis and traded him to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 13th overall pick in Thursday night’s draft and a conditional selection next year.

The Buccaneers announced the deal on Sunday, saying Revis agreed to a new six-year contract.

The deal is worth $96 million, making Revis the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history, but includes no guaranteed money, according to sources close to the Pro Bowl cornerback.

Jets general manager John Idzik cited multiple reasons for the trade, namely the inability to negotiate a long-term extension with the cornerback and a “degree of uncertainty” regarding Revis’ rehab from a serious knee injury suffered last season.

What Does This Mean For The NFC South?

Adding Revis to the Bucs secondary surely makes them stout with Mark Barron and Dashon Goldson at safety. Revis will be expected to shut down the likes of Marques Colston, Roddy White, Julio Jones, Vincent Jackson, and Steve Smith. While Revis has been cleared to practice, he still has to show that he can be the same player he was before the injury. If Revis is healthy the Bucs’ defense will definitely be improved but the offense will have to improve as well to get to the playoffs.

Jets lowering price on some seats, raising none

PFT reports that the New York Jets announced Friday that 3,000 seats in the upper deck and more than 2,000 club seats will have a lower price tag than they did last year. The remainder of the seats will be unchanged.

“Our pricing is remaining unchanged for the coming season, with a few exceptions,” team president Neil Glat said in a release from the team. “After taking a look at the entire bowl, we decided to adjust certain prices to improve the value for fans, especially for season ticket holders.”

With how bad the Jets have been it would be pretty hard to justify raising prices for tickets when the team is getting rid of a lot of quality players on the roster and was 6-10 last season. Good move by the Front Office to try to keep some fans happy

Jets Trying To Shop Tim Tebow At Combine

The Tim Tebow experiment in New York was a total failure and now the Jets are looking to make sure that this isn’t an issue for the 2013 season. ESPN reports that the Jets will try to shop him at this week’s scouting combine. The first day they can trade him is March 12, so they might keep him until then with the hope that they can swing a deal. Chances are, no one will bite, so they’ll end up releasing him. Tebow is scheduled to make $2.6 million base salary this season and obviously that’s too much for a one trick pony.

Bart Scott Released – Another Cap Casualty

The New York Jets added a fifth name to their Tuesday salary-cap purge with the announcement that linebacker Bart Scott has been released.

The move came less than an hour after the team announced it had waived linebacker Calvin Pace, safety Eric Smith, offensive tackle Jason Smith and tight end Josh Baker.

NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported that Scott’s agent planned to meet with the Jets on Thursday to explore options that would keep Scott with the team in 2013. But the Jets made a changee on that front.

The Jets receive $7.15 million in cap relief by cutting Scott, according to ESPN. The team has now cleared approximately $30 million in cap space in one day.

So Jets fans get ready for a new look Jets next season.
