Free agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha reached agreement on a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday that could pay him as much as $3 million this year according to ESPN.
The contract has no guaranteed money. Asomugha is due to earn a base package of $1.35 million with salary and bonuses, and could make an additional $1.65 million in incentives for playing time, awards such as the Pro Bowl and reaching the playoffs.
Asomugha has something to prove this year after two poor seasons in Philadelphia. While he’s salary is low for a premier cornerback, Asomugha is with a team poised to make another Superbowl run. I’m sure Vic Fangio, the 49ers defensive coordinator will make sure to keep him man coverage on the outside where he is the most comfortable at and was a shutdown corner while in Oakland.
